New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has pulled up 54 State Private Universities across India for failing to comply with mandatory disclosure norms under the UGC Act, 1956. In a notice issued on Friday, the regulator pointed out that these universities have either not submitted information under Section 13 of the Act or failed to upload their Public Self-Disclosure on the UGC portal.
The Commission stated that these disclosures are essential to ensure transparency, accountability, and public trust in higher education institutions. Universities are required to furnish detailed information about their programs, faculty, infrastructure, and governance structure.
States with Non-Compliant Private Universities
The following states have been identified as having private universities that failed to meet the UGC’s disclosure norms:
- Gujarat: Eight private universities have been flagged for non-compliance. These include Gandhinagar University (Kalol), JG University (Uvarsad), KN University (Ahmedabad), MK University (Patan), Plastindia International University (Vapi), Surendranagar University (Wadhwan), TeamLease Skills University (Vadodara), and TransStadia University (Ahmedabad)
- Madhya Pradesh: Ten private universities have been found lacking in transparency regarding their website disclosures. Despite multiple reminders, these institutions have not submitted the required information under Section 13 of the UGC Act, 1956, nor have they uploaded essential public self-disclosure details on their websites.
The guidelines aim to enhance transparency in higher education. Universities are required to share details about their programs, faculty, infrastructure, research work, governance, and financial matters. Their websites should include a search function to allow visitors to access information easily. According to the UGC, these rules help students, parents, and the public make well-informed decisions. Promoting transparency also strengthens trust and ensures that universities remain accountable.
